Standing Finance Committee approves extra $3b expenditure

THE Standing Finance Committee of the Home of Associates accepted a sum of $3,081,703,900 in supplementary allocations for fiscal 2022, when it sat on May 13.

The allocations go over 80 heads of expenditure, some of which are govt ministries.

Just before the committee accepted an allocation of $95,357,000 for his ministry, Rural Advancement and Regional Govt Minister Faris Al-Rawi explained aspect of that allocation involved a sum of $50 million for the Local community-Based Environmental Defense and Improvement Programme (CEPEP)

He stated that 92 for each cent of that $50 million is for the payment of CEPEP workers’ wages. Al-Rawi reported there are at present 319 CEPEP contractors and 9,000 personnel in Trinidad.

He added his ministry does not offer with the payment of CEPEP personnel in Tobago. Al-Rawi observed that Tobago Property of Assembly (THA) Youth Advancement Secretary Terence Baynes has responsibility for CEPEP there.

“I have no remedy to offer you him.”

On May well 10, Baynes claimed much more than 40 CEPEP workers in Tobago had been fired.

Al-Rawi also mentioned the ministry is performing an audit to ascertain the resources at the 14 neighborhood federal government corporations in Trinidad and what monies could be owed to them.

Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram claimed this was proof of bias from UNC-led firms.

Al-Rawi replied, “There is anything basically erroneous here with comprehension.”

He said $130,000 was delivered to each company to undertake pursuits less than the ministry’s countrywide clear up marketing campaign. These actions have taken location at the Diego Martin Regional, Port of Spain Town and Siparia Regional Organizations to date.
